Wildcat Peak

Wildcat Peak

Wildcat Peak Trail in the Berkeley Hills isn’t my top pick for East Bay hikes—it tends to draw a larger crowd, and I prefer quieter trails. The hike is best avoided on hot, sunny days due to its steep incline and limited shade. That said, early spring offers a chance to spot beautiful wildflowers along the way, and the summit rewards you with sweeping views of the entire Bay. For the descent, I recommend taking Laurel Canyon Trail. It’s a cooler, shaded route with a lush forest atmosphere and a babbling brook that provides a soothing soundtrack as you make your way back to the trailhead.
